Eye Rejuvenation Beachwood and Cleveland, OH

Eye rejuvenation is a transformative process that aims to restore youthfulness and vitality to the delicate area surrounding the eyes. More than any other facial feature, the eyes play an important role in the expression of your emotions. Because they are constantly being used, they typically show some of the earliest signs of aging. When your eyes are bright and alert, you appear energized, well-rested, and in control. If you feel that the “bags” or puffiness under your eyes, drooping upper eyelids, wrinkles, or scowling eyebrows make you look older, angrier, or more tired than you feel, you may benefit from cosmetic treatments like blepharoplasty, a brow lift, or skin resurfacing.

Dr. Gregory Fedele offers eye rejuvenation treatments for patients in the areas of Beachwood and Cleveland, Ohio. He uses cutting-edge plastic surgery techniques to bring his patients beautiful, revitalizing results. For more information, call (216) 464-1616 or contact us online.

About Eye Rejuvenation

There are many cosmetic procedures available today to enhance or improve the appearance of your eyes and give you a more rested and youthful look. Two effective eye rejuvenation procedures that Dr. Fedele provides are blepharoplasty and brow lifts. He also offers a variety of skin resurfacing treatments that can revitalize the skin around your eyes.

Blepharoplasty

Surgery of the eyelids, also known as blepharoplasty, is one of the most common cosmetic procedures that plastic surgeons perform. It involves removing excess skin, fat, and muscle around the eyes to improve their appearance. In certain individuals with excessive amounts of upper eyelid skin, blepharoplasty can also improve peripheral vision. (1)

Brow Lift

A brow lift, or forehead lift, can minimize drooping eyebrows, “hooding” over the upper eyelids,  and forehead furrows or scowl lines that come with age. Dr. Fedele accomplishes this with an advanced and minimally invasive technique: the endoscopic forehead lift.

Using several small incisions placed within the hairline, Dr. Fedele releases the deep tissues along the eyebrows and elevates the eyebrows. In addition, he can remove the small muscles that produce the scowl lines between the eyebrows. (2) When the eyebrows are lifted and the forehead lines softened, the eyes appear more open and youthful.

Skin Resurfacing

Increasing age, sun damage, smoking, and heredity can all contribute to fine wrinkles in the skin surrounding the lower eyelids. In many cases, these will not be corrected by blepharoplasty alone. They may be best treated with a skin resurfacing procedure such as a chemical or laser peel. These resurfacing techniques work similarly by removing damaged outer layers of skin, allowing new cells to form during the healing process. This new layer is smoother and tighter, giving a more youthful appearance to the skin. Skin resurfacing can be combined with blepharoplasty as a single outpatient procedure.

Benefits of Eye Rejuvenation

Improving the quality and character of the skin around your eyes comes with many benefits. These include:

  • Reduced signs of aging
  • Increased self-confidence
  • A more energized and attentive appearance
  • A smoother surface for applying makeup

More specifically, blepharoplasty can get rid of bags under the eyes, as well as reduce crow’s feet. A brow lift can improve your facial harmony, as repositioning the eyebrows can proportionally improve the overall appearance of your face. Chemical and laser peels are also powerful in that they improve the quality of the skin itself.

Who is a Candidate for Eye Rejuvenation?

Individuals considering eye rejuvenation may be seeking solutions for common concerns such as:

  • Drooping or sagging eyebrows
  • Excess skin on the upper eyelids
  • Hooding of the upper eyelids
  • Under-eye bags or puffiness
  • Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
  • Brow asymmetry

If you are considering an eye rejuvenation surgery such as blepharoplasty or a brow lift, you should be in relatively good health. These surgeries involve incisions, and they require that the body be able to heal properly for the best results. Healthy men and women aged 35 or older with realistic expectations are the best candidates for these surgeries. However, younger individuals with drooping and baggy eyelids may also be good candidates for blepharoplasty. If you are younger and you want to prevent further signs of aging from accumulating around your eyes, a laser or chemical peel can work well as a preventative measure.

Preparation

Depending on which treatment you will be receiving, we will give you personalized instructions for how to best prepare. These may include changes to your diet and lifestyle, as well as medication adjustments. In the days leading up to your treatment, avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements. These can cause excess bleeding during surgery. You should also avoid unnecessary sun exposure, as the area surrounding the eyes can easily become sunburnt and cause discomfort as you recover. Avoiding alcohol and tobacco, as well as leading a healthy lifestyle in general, will help you heal more quickly and may improve your results.

Eye Rejuvenation Procedure

We typically perform eye rejuvenation procedures on an outpatient basis. On the day of your treatment, we will administer anesthesia locally or generally, depending on your treatment plan.

Upper Blepharoplasty

For upper blepharoplasty, the incisions are hidden in the natural creases of the upper eyelids. Dr. Fedele carefully removes excess skin and muscle tissue causing drooping or puffiness. This step restores a more youthful and refreshed appearance to the eyes. He may reposition or remove fat deposits that contribute to eyelid fullness. Through meticulous surgical techniques, Dr. Fedele reshapes the upper eyelids to achieve a more defined and aesthetically pleasing contour.

Lower Blepharoplasty

The lower blepharoplasty surgery involves meticulously reshaping the lower eyelid region to achieve a more youthful and refreshed look. The lower eyelid incision can be completely hidden inside the eyelid when only fat removal is required. If necessary, Dr. Fedele will tighten the underlying muscles of the lower eyelids to improve support and prevent future drooping.

Brow Lift

The minimally invasive endoscopic brow lift technique involves making small incisions hidden within the hairline, through which a tiny camera and specialized instruments are inserted to lift the underlying tissues, smooth out wrinkles, and elevate the eyebrows. Scars fade with time and gradually become almost imperceptible.

Recovery

If you receive eye rejuvenation surgery, you may need up to two weeks of downtime to heal. You can expect some swelling and bruising to occur around your treatment area during this period. You may have trouble seeing before the swelling subsides, so having someone around to take care of you would be of great help. If you experience any discomfort, Dr. Fedele can prescribe medication to help alleviate these symptoms.

If you receive a chemical or laser peel, we typically place a “mask” of silicone or ointment to the treatment area that may need to be re-applied several times during the first week. After seven to ten days a new layer of bright-pink skin will form. This pink color will gradually fade with time and make-up can be used to cover it during this period. Complete healing may take up to six months.

Results

The full results of your eye rejuvenation will initially be obscured by swelling. However, you should be able to see a noticeable difference immediately after your procedure. The skin around your eyes will be tighter, and smoother, and appear revitalized.
